Episode 34:

Sibling Rivarly

Reduce conflict immediately! If you will apply this one simple practice in your home, I guarantee you’ll reduce the frequency and frustration of conflict and sibling rivalry. Set aside less than an hour a week to do this activity with your kids.
The One on One is the most powerful activity you can do with your family.
I’ve coached great parents who absolutely love their kids- and yet those same kids believe their parents don’t love them equally.

Children often feel like they don’t measure up in their families. Whether it’s that another sibling is getting more attention (good or bad), or that they themselves are the problem child, kids create hierarchy’s and work to fight their way to the top. Their insecurities create hostile environments and siblings either push to prove their value, or seek revenge against the assumed favourite.

But many parents will say I already do this and it doesn’t make a difference!
But you’re not really affirming their whole selves.
If this is you, listen to the podcast today.

Teammates- with Sean Dean

When I say that we’ve learned everything the hard way, I wasn’t kidding! This episode we learn from my hero- my husband, Sean Dean. He has worked hard over the years to become the amazing father and husband he is today. If your marriage is strong- press in to make it even better. If your marriage is struggling- our hope is to motivate you to do the hard work now.

That pimple we brought up.
Whether you feel like your marriage is struggling or not, have a look at this.
If either of you are using manipulation (purposely or not) -get help!

Episode 16:

Sister- You are not alone!

We all have our own weird. But as crazy as this life can be, one thing we know is that we are all better together! In this episode Niki Williams is real and honest in her struggle with depression and thoughts of suicide. You were created with a purpose, and whether you believe it or not- You are worth fighting for!

Niki shares compassion and healing. If you are struggling right now it can be hard, but getting help is possible. There is hope! If you know somebody stuck in the trenches, we want to help you be that person who will jump in the ditch to help.

One of my biggest dreams is building a community of women who will support and cheer each other on! If life is going great, we need you to share your joy, and if life is super sucky right now we need you to come out and be encouraged with a night of hope.

Resources:

  1. Write out some notes thanking and encouraging the people that have been with you in the trenches- they may not even know they’ve been your person. Often those support people struggle with not knowing what to do or say, so a note acknowledging that they actually helped you goes a long way.
  2. One of my biggest dreams is building a community of women who will support and cheer each other on! If life is going great, we need you to share your joy, and if life is super sucky right now we need you to come out to the Sisters Event and be encouraged with a night of hope.

You are my person!

Episode 14:

Is it Just a Phase?

Is it just a phase? Lessons from an expert in children’s stages of development.

Raising kids is really hard! If you’ve ever wondered if you’re ruining your children, you’re not alone. What used to work isn’t anymore, and maybe it’s even hurting your kids. You can feel them emotionally slipping away…what can you do!?

This episode we get to hear from an unbiased outsider who has seen it all!

Whether you have preschoolers or teens, you’ll get practical tips on what to expect at each stage in order to reach your child’s heart. Grab a notepad and get ready to learn from the best.

Jori Stockdale is an expert in helping families through stages of development. In this podcast you’ll  learn how to reach the heart of your child specifically related to their stage of development:

What are the questions our kids are asking at each stage of development?

What are the pitfalls we need to avoid?

What do they need from us?

No matter how old your kids are, there’s something for you and it’s never too late.

 5 Stages of Development:

  1. Preschool
  2. Elementary
  3. Middle Years
  4. High School
  5. After High School

Parents, whether you’re playing Fortnight or Candyland (the worst game EVER) for the millionth time, remember you’re building up your relational foundation. Podcast Episode 13: selfless

Want to change the world? No, seriously, what if you had a crazy idea to make a movie that would inspire youth to look at themselves differently, but you had literally no idea how to make it happen. Most of us would shrug it off and go back to scrolling Instagram. But not Kim and Meg. This mother/daughter duo pondered the question,’If a girl lived in the forest with no mirrors, magazines or social media – what would beautiful look like to her and how would she see herself?’ Creating something from nothing, This movie is a must-watch for every family on the planet. Being Present

Podcast Episode 12: Being Present

I get to interview my great friend Julie Allan, who teaches a parenting program called ‘Circle of Security’. Julie has this way of presenting hard truths in a way that you feel inspired to look at yourself, and your children, differently. After our conversation we hope you’ll be able to give yourself a little more grace.

Circle of Security is all about finding the courage to be fully present for your children. We aren’t perfect, but we need to be bigger than our kids problems so that they can rely on us to meet their needs. Whether it’s that extra hug when we’re triggered, or discipline when we feel severely under-qualified, our kids need to know that we are bigger, stronger, wiser and kind. Learn more or register for her next class by emailing Julie at dwajulallan@gmail.com

Here is the video about shark music that we reference in the podcast. Notice how our own perceptions, and triggers, make all the difference? What is your shark music? Next time you feel yourself reacting unreasonably, ask yourself if there’s shark music playing for no reason. Perhaps you’re reacting to something in your own past, and often just seeing that is enough to talk us off the ledge of despair.

How is YOUR shark music affecting your parenting?

Have a listen, and would you do me a favor? If you enjoy the podcast would you take a screenshot and share it out to your friends? Please mention us in the comment so we can say hi! Thanks so much guys!
